  Performance & Limitations

  This reel mower excels in regularly maintained, short-grass conditions. For thick weeds, brush, or turf over 3″ tall, a rotary or flail mower may be more suitable.

• Trailing gang reel mowers are equipped with double pin-style hitches and outrigger bars for a 58” cutting path

  Reel mowers are not for every mowing solution. They do not perform well in weeds with thick stems, in fields with dirt mounds, or in timbered areas with dense leaves and sticks. They will also bog down in deep grass over 3 inches.

  The reel Mascot mowers are made in China under strict guidelines set by the Amish company, which personally inspects, sharpens, and tunes each one before it ships to a customer. Clipper mowers are all made in the USA.

The Clipper Reel Mower is the Cadillac-Mercedes of reel mowers. It is all USA-made by the Amish using USA-made parts. The reel has riveted blades, and the bed-knife is made of higher-quality US steel and extra-tempered for maximum cutting sharpness. The Bed-Knife and spiral reels were patterned from the vintage Scotts Silent mowers. It is also the most expensive reel mower.  Despite the price, it is also the most popular among the Amish and non-Amish. Clipper is our best seller.

Mascot Silent Reel Mowers use all imported parts and are assembled overseas. It is strictly quality-controlled by an Amish company that personally inspects, sharpens, and tunes each one before it ships to a customer. The Amish company developed it from the vintage Scotts Silent mowers. Many of the parts interchange with the old Scott mowers. It is a popular mower, with high satisfaction among both Amish and non-Amish who are looking for long-term durability and performance. We received numerous calls asking why we did not carry Mascot Mowers, so we decided to review them and were pleasantly surprised by what we found. We categorize it as a Buick reel mower, and it is priced in the mid-range of Amish reel mowers.

A note on returns: 

Reel mowers are not suitable for every lawn or every user. Unlike powered mowers, they perform best when used regularly to maintain shorter grass heights.

For optimal performance, grass should generally be kept under 3 inches tall. Taller grass can cause the mower to bog down or push the grass over rather than cut it cleanly. Reel mowers are designed for maintaining fine, short turf and are not intended for cutting thick stems, weeds, twigs, leaves, rocks, or dirt mounds. Due to the close tolerance between the reel and bed knife, even a small twig can temporarily lock up the mower.

We offer a 30-day return policy on our products. However, because returned reel mowers cannot be resold as new, a 25% restocking fee will be deducted from any refund to cover the loss of value associated with a used, returned item. We encourage customers to carefully consider whether a reel mower is the right fit for their lawn conditions and mowing preferences before making a purchase.
