This custom-made cabinet can be redesigned for other customers. It’s a bit different than the traditional Amish cabinets we offer. Still, the Amish-built model uses all-solid wood construction. Click Here to see all our Amish sewing cabinets.
An optional drop leaf across the back is available in 15” or 18” widths via the drop-down box at the top of the page. The leaf will extend the 43” length of the main cabinet, not including the fold-up leaves on each end.
The cabinet is priced in oak and optional cherry as pictured. Select cherry wood from the drop-down menu at the top of the page to view the price increase. Please email us for other wood options.
Cabinet tops, fronts, and drawer fronts are built from solid hardwoods. Cabinet sides, the inside of the kneehole, and the back are constructed from cabinet-grade veneer plywood. No particle board or pressed fiberboard is ever used in Amish cabinets.
All drawers feature old-world-quality dovetail joinery, not often found in furniture built today.
The cabinet comes with an easy-lift sewing machine shelf. The cabinet includes a pull-out wall for thread and bobbins, as well as four drawers. Our Amish builder uses only high-quality hardware, including self-closing drawers and double-knuckle hinges on top, so the fabric will not snag.
The sewing machine presses down into the cabinet using a German-made airlift, allowing the top to be closed.
The standard sewing machine airlift is rated for up to 50 lbs. This lift will accommodate machines up to 14-1/2" tall.
If you have, or plan to acquire, a next-generation sewing machine, such as the Bernina 7 series, that requires at least 15” of space and up to 60 lbs., you will need to upgrade to the extra-tall heavy-duty lift. The extra-tall lift can handle machines up to 16-1/2” tall.
Both lifts allow adjustable levels for both tabletop and flatbed sewing. The lift's travel depth into the cabinet is also adjustable, allowing for a shorter machine now and a taller machine later.
Select Larger Machine Modifications to select a larger kneehole with or without the taller lift option.
The cabinet features a standard raised door to match the open drawer fronts.
This cabinet is also equipped with cord grommets to route the main power strip cord through the side of the cabinet, and a desk grommet at the top to conceal the machine cords from view at the front.
Unless specifically requested, cord grommets will be added, even with a treadle option, to allow an electric machine to be used.
Please indicate which side of the cabinet you would like the cord to exit. Please note that you are using the drop-down box.
The template will be cut to fit your specific sewing machine, ensuring it fits flush with the work area.
No worries if you ever want to upgrade to a new machine; a new template can be cut and sent without altering the cabinet top.
This cabinet will have a solid wood insert that replaces the template when the machine is lowered.
Cabinets are built one at a time, allowing you to customize or reconfigure each order to your needs. Please email us your custom request. A simple change, such as reversing the drawers to accommodate a left-hand person, can usually be accomplished at minimal additional cost.
Customers tell us we are already very competitive with other stores selling Amish sewing machine cabinets. Still, when they compare what we include as standard on ours and what others call options, Cottage Craft Works' pricing for these excellent, heirloom-quality cabinets just can't be beaten. We include the spool drawer, the sewing machine template to fit your machine, and the rollers.
Cottage Craft Works has earned a reputation for quality sewing cabinets and was featured in the December/January 2015 issue of Vogue Patterns Magazine as a resource for Amish handcrafted sewing machine cabinets.

Time Frame
You should expect 3 to 6 months for your custom cabinet to be built and shipped. Since the pandemic and economic uncertainty, demand for home-based products has increased significantly. Our Amish builders are also facing the same levels of supply chain and labor shortages as other industries. Each cabinet is handcrafted for quality, not for mass-production speed.
In-Home Delivery
We use insured, professional blanket-wrapped Amish furniture haulers that cover 95% of the Continental US and offer inside delivery for only $450. The exception might be a remote location at the extreme tip of a state such as Michigan, Maine, or Florida, or another area that is difficult to deliver to.
These companies make monthly runs with scheduled pickup dates. We coordinate with the cabinet builders around these pickup dates to ship your cabinet as soon as it’s completed and ready for the hauling company to pick up.
Select F.O.B. if you live near Northern Indiana and would like to pick up the cabinet at the Amish shop.
Select a $450 shipping deposit for in-home delivery. We will notify you should there be an issue with delivery to your location before we process the order.
