Mascot Reel Push Mower 21 Inch

We are the exclusive online direct dealer for all Mascot Mowers.

The Mascot 21” Reel Push Mower is an impressive beast of a lawn mower. The new owners have made several improvements from the earlier models, including a more spiral in the reel to kick out grass quicker and making the reels with rivets instead of welding, which distorted the reel radius. The bedknife has also been improved, as well as the adjustment trunnions. The rollers are now in individual sections, making the mower easier to turn at the end of the rows. This mower is a real workhorse and should be at the top of your consideration for the price and value, even though it is still being imported.

Description / Mascot Reel Push Mower 21 Inch

Mowers generally ship within 1-2 weeks of order.

The grass catcher(s) pictured are not included. Read more about them below.

Human-powered reel mowers are perfect for small yards and in states like California that have banned the sale of new gas-powered mowers.

Mascot Deluxe Silent Cut Reel Mowers offer solid, heavy-duty, long-term performance far superior to other reel mowers being sold in local hardware and home improvement stores. Six riveted tempered unique spiral heat-treated blades mounted in a 12-gauge steel frame and supported by heavy-duty bearings, brackets, and rollers. These mowers are built tough to use for decades to come. In fact, Mascot is so confident in their mowers that they carry a 5-Year limited warranty.

The reel blades and bed-knife are patterned after the ever-popular Silent-Scotts vintage mowers. Mascot 21” comes standard with 9” heavy-duty steel wheels and rubber tires. A 10” tire upgrade is also available for taller grasses.

Mowers are shipped after being fully tested, greased, and adjusted by the Amish shop. Price begins with the Mascot Silent Cut Mower with 9” wheels and incrementally increases as the 10” tire option is added. Some will call the mowers equipped with the 9" wheels "Bent Grass Mowers" and with the 10" wheels "Upright Tall Grass Mowers"

The overall width to the outside of the tires on the 21" size is 27", add 1-1/2" to these widths when ordering the 10" tires.

Mascot Silent Cut Reel Mowers Feature:

Riveted spiral design 6 blades, tempered heat-treated blades, and bed-knife stays sharper longer. Riveting does not distort the reel cage as welding the blades do. This is important to maintain close tolerance across the length of the bedknife.

Ultra-fine thread bed-knife adjustment (factory adjusted to a paper-thin cut)

Self-lubricating wheel bearings

Heavy-duty nylon rollers with a glass-lined inner surface for longer wear patterns

Metal wheels with 1-3/4” thick solid rubber tires (Like they used in the 1950s and 1960s on mowers)

Height adjustments for the 21”- .5-3” with 9” tires, add 1/2” with 10” wheels

(The 9” wheel models work better on shorter bent grasses like Bermuda, and the 10" wheels for taller grasses)

Weighs about 55 lbs. for the 21”. Mowers will store nicely and hang on a garage wall.

The comfortable 35” long handle adjusts to different operator heights

Durable baked powder-coated paint

No Bounce 12-Ga. The frame is balanced and heavy enough to provide a manicured lawn, but still easy to push

5-year warranty. Excludes damage from dropping, abuse, and mowing in areas with damaging sand, rocks, glass, and debris. In general, reel mowers do not do well with debris and small twigs that may lodge between the knife-bed and blades.

The grass catcher(s) pictured are not included:  The black Mascot grass catcher is more suited for smaller yards, as the capacity is limited and will require frequent emptying.  It does ship with the mower if ordered using the drop-down box. It has a poly bottom.  For a larger capacity and overall better quality grass catcher, we recommend the USA Clipper Grass Catcher for this mower. It pairs nicely with the Mascot 21" mower, has a large capacity, rollers on the back, and has a metal bottom. The Clipper grass catcher is much more expensive and does ship from another Amish shop, so there will be shipping on it, but the quality is much better. It will need to be ordered separately from the mower. If you select the Mascot grass catcher, that is the one that you will receive with the mower. The grass catcher decision will ultimately be based on the size of your yard and how much you will use the grass catcher. Mascot has done an excellent job in improving the quality of their mowers to better match with the Clipper mowers, however, not so much for the grass catchers.

Which Reel Mower Is Best for Me?

We offer all three Amish-made reel mowers to provide our customers with greater selections, options, and price ranges. Too many selections sometimes create more confusion so let’s break them down for a better understanding of the pricing differences.

All three different Amish reel mower companies offer heavy-duty reel push mower models that are hands down much higher in quality than the average reel mowers being sold in hardware and home improvement stores.

The Clipper Reel Mower is the Cadillac-Mercedes of reel mowers. It is all USA-made by the Amish using USA-made parts. The reel has riveted blades, and the bed-knife is higher quality US steel and is extra tempered for the longest cutting sharpness.  The Bed-Knife and spiral reels were patterned from the vintage Scotts Silent mowers. It is also the most expensive of all reel mowers. Despite the price, it is also the most popular among the Amish and non-Amish. The Clipper is our best seller.

Mascot Silent Reel Mowers. The Mascot Mower Company completed an ownership change in early 2021. A long-term Amish Mascot dealer purchased the company and moved it to Indiana with a renewed focus on making it the best reel mower possible placing quality ahead of cost and profit margins. He was concerned as a Mascot dealer that the previous owners were determined to compete with the big box store reel mowers; thus, he could see the quality slipping to reduce cost, which was reflected in some of the reviews.

Although they still use imported parts and assemble them overseas. The new owner made several changes to enhance the quality of the mower. Thicker steel in the cutting blades and bed knife, with more spirals in the roller cage to provide more cutting surface. The new owner’s goal is to move the manufacturing back to the US. He personally inspects, sharpens, and tunes each mower before it ships to a customer. The Amish developed the Mascot from the vintage Scotts Silent mowers. Many of the parts will interchange with the old Scott mowers. It is an extremely popular mower with high satisfaction for those looking for long-term durability and performance at a mid-range price. We figured we better check them out and were pleasantly surprised with what we found. We have now been chosen to be the exclusive online dealer for Mascot Mowers.

We categorize Mascot as the Buick of reel mowers and it is priced mid-range of the Amish reel mowers.

Silver Pro Reel Mower was developed by an Amish Company as a more budget-friendly option for Amish families. It uses a combination of imported parts and USA-made parts cousin to the Clipper mowers. It is fully assembled in the US, sharpened, and tuned by the Amish. By some accounts, it would be considered made in the USA since many of the parts are made in the US and it is fully assembled in the US. The reel was just recently improved, as shown in the newer pictures to now include riveted spiral blades like the Clipper and Mascot. It also uses imported tempered steel blades. It still features steel wheels and solid rubber tires. We categorize the Silver Pro as the Chevy of reel mowers, and it’s priced accordingly. It is still of much higher quality than other non-Amish reel mowers.

A note on returns: Reel mowers are not for everyone as they will give you a good physical workout, and they are not for every yard as they do have restrictions on the height of grass that they will cut without bogging down, as well as they do not do well with sticks, stems, rocks, and dirt mounds.

We do provide a 30-day return on our products. Realizing that if one were to be returned, to resell it to another customer, they would be expecting a discount for it being used and returned. Thus, a 25% restocking fee would need to be discounted from any refunds for a return.

Addictive
Review by Ren
I have a large lawn (roughly 1 acre) which I mowed the prior year with a push gas mower and I actually enjoyed it and definitely felt the health benefits. I started to consider a reel mower, studied them for weeks, considered both new (cheaper made) as well as the rugged vintage ones but could not find all the attributes I wanted… 1) cutting height of at least 3”, 2) cutting width of 21”, 3) rollers, 4) robust construction. I finally stumbled onto this site and was only deterred by the cost (21” w/10” wheels), but took the gamble. After just 2 cuttings this early Spring, I’m super happy, so much so that I find mowing nearly addictive. My lawn is a rural farmhouse lawn with lots of trees, bumps, branches, pine cones, etc… it’s beautiful but not a golf course manicured type lawn. And I’ve found that 1) the general feel and sound of mowing is extremely appealing (addictive), 2) the quality of the cut is impressive, slightly better than what I recall with gas mower… so far it only fails to cut long, dead weeds (from last year), 3) mostly it is just a bit more effort to push than the gas mower but becomes noticably difficult in very thick grass… but I love the free workout I get, 4) it is much easier to maneuver (turn) than a 4-wheel mower, 5) at the high cutting height I go right over bumpy ground, tree roots, pine cones, branches nearly always without issue. I still have the rest of Spring and Summer to consider and I still have a powered mower just in case… but right now, I love this mower and don’t want to use anything else.

Excellent Mower, not enough good reviews!
Review by Jk
I picked one of these up used after doing some research and felt inclined to leave a review here because there aren’t enough positive reviews of this mower! I’ve tried three reel mowers on my lawn, earthwise 16”, fiskars 18”, and the mascot 21”. The mascot by far is the one that’s staying in the garage. I suspect that some have landed here after going through the several reviews available online for the reel mowers that are available at big box stores, all of which recommend a mower with an affiliate link. If you’re looking for an actual quality mower that you will likely enjoy using year after year, you’ve found what you’re looking for here. This is a well tuned piece of landscaping equipment, what you’ll find at your local home improvement store isn’t close. This mower, when set up correctly, cruises through the thick bermuda in my back yard with no problems, delivering a clean cut on the first pass. I mow at least twice a week when the grass is growing full steam ahead. After I took this mower for it’s first test drive i knew the others were getting put up for sale. I imagine that I’ll give out before the mascot mower does.
