USA Stoneware Large Bread Making Bowl

Our 16" large bread-making bowl is only 6” deep, making it easy to handle, knead, and punch down bread dough. Bowls are still hand-turned, made the old-fashioned way, and hand-painted with the American Heritage traditional blue stripe or custom colors.

The USA-made stoneware is lead- and cadmium-free and microwave-, oven-, and dishwasher-safe. Pottery is durable and functional for everyday use.

This shallow bowl is also perfect for salads and mixes, where utensils are used to lift and mix ingredients from the bottom.

Description / USA Stoneware Large Bread Making Bowl

The bread bowl measures approximately 16" across and 5” deep and holds about 40 cups. (Hand-turned pottery dimensions will vary) We also carry a 16” deep bowl for large liquid mixes that tend to splash out the sides Click Here to learn more. Both bowls weigh approximately 12 pounds, allowing dense, sticky bread dough to be picked up without the bowl lifting.

The standard color is priced in a blue stripe. You can select other colors using the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Some colors are hand-painted and signed by the artist. Please note: the rooster, red apple, and summer splendor design is a decal and is not hand-painted. The Poppy Seed design will feature flowers in both blue and peach, arranged on opposite sides of the stoneware.

See color samples by clicking to enlarge pictures of various product examples. The white will match the cream color of the blue stripe. Depending on its position in the kiln, the actual white color may range from cream to white, with a grayish hue or even a tan/beige tone—another characteristic of old-fashioned hand-turned pottery.

Stoneware may also be personalized for $12 via the drop-down menu at the top of the page. In the comment section at checkout, please leave us the name that you would like added. Personalized names and messages will be hand-painted.

The standard blue stripe may take 3-4 weeks to ship. Most colors, including white and personalized items, are custom-made to order and may take approximately 8 weeks to ship.

Stoneware Pottery is USA-made in Texas by a small family-owned and operated pottery company, which has been making quality pottery for over 22 years. Each piece is hand turned by a master potter, hand-painted or finished, and then coated with a lead-free glaze.

Because pottery is hand-turned, dimensions may vary slightly. Stoneware pottery may also develop minor imperfections during firing and glazing.  All food contact surfaces are inspected for such imperfections before shipping. The exterior may have imperfections that enhance the stoneware's character.

A Note About Shipping Cost

Shipping fragile pottery has become challenging and expensive, especially when it is shipped to the East and West Coasts. The item must be double-boxed or shipped in an oversized box to protect the pottery during transit. Unfortunately, carriers determine rates based on the box's overall dimensions. These rates are based on “Dimensional Box Weight” instead of the actual product weight. The shop must also cover the cost of any additional boxes and packing materials, so an extra $5 is included in the overall shipping cost.

We do not believe it is fair to Midwest customers to "pad" product prices to cover shipping to all areas and then make it appear we are offering free or discounted shipping. Therefore, please understand why we charge the shipping fees we do. We try to keep prices as low as possible, but we also want your new pottery to arrive safely.

Awesome! Excellent Craftsmanship and "YUGE"!
Review by PlainJane
This bowl is huge and sturdy! I just got into artisan bread baking and I needed a large mixing bowl that could handle large batches of dough. The bowl was shipped and arrived FAST and unscathed. It was packed extremely well. (Box inside a box surrounded by peanuts.) Not a mark/crack on it. Once it arrived, it took me a minute to adjust to the size. The thing is, you know how when you are mixing large batches of dough and the dough sticks to the bowl and when you lift the dough up, the entire bowl lifts up with it? Not going to happen here. This bowl is as heavy as it is large. If I were going to carry it around with me all day, I would say it is too large and heavy. But sitting on the counter, it is PERFECT for my purposes. The craftsmanship is on target too. It reminds me of the mixing bowl my grandmother had when I was a child. You know when they made things to last? It burned up in a house fire. :( A bonus, is that these bowls are ovenproof, freezer proof, and microwave proof - although you'd never get it into a microwave. All in all, it is very large. 16" diameter is larger than I had imagined but it has been a very pleasurable adjustment. Worth every single penny! If you mix large batches of anything, and you appreciate excellence in craftsmanship, this is the bowl for you. I know I will enjoy making bread and entertaining my grandmother's ghost while doing it.
