We do not chalk or tune this call so that it can be finished.

Unscrew the lid, keep the spring, and screw. Finish as you want, leaving the bottom of the paddle surface that will scrape the sounding board's bare wood masked. After it is finished, chalk the bare wood with non-wax chalk-like driveway chalk (not chalkboard chalk). Reassemble with the screw so that the lid floats level over the sounding bar arches. Test for sound. If needed, lightly sand the top edges of the sounding boards on each side back to bare wood to finish tuning the call.
