Our grinder drum is crafted from hard maple, featuring inset grinder teeth, and paired with a solid cast-iron body for unmatched durability. Together, they create a reliable, long-lasting grinder that requires virtually no maintenance.

The Superior “Apple Eater” Drum

At the heart of the grinder is our “Apple Eater” cylinder — eight rows of stainless-steel teeth (5 ¼ in.) embedded in a hard maple drum (5 ⅝ in. × 6 ¼ in.) and securely fastened to a ¾-inch × 20-inch hardened-steel shaft. This design quickly reduces whole boxes of apples into a fine pulp that’s easy to press.

The result? More juice, less bitterness. The Apple Eater has been tested and proven to extract maximum cider yield without grinding seeds or stems, producing a clear, sweet cider free of the bitter notes found in lesser grinders.

Note: This drum may not fit older Pioneer models with wooden sides.

Why Not a Polypropylene Drum?

While polypropylene drums are sometimes marketed as “bacteria-free,” our hard-maple drums are just as sanitary — and far more durable.
Plastic drums are typically made from two hollow halves glued together. Over time, torque causes the glue seal to crack, allowing juice to seep into the cavity and eventually leak. As the plastic softens, pulp size increases, and the drum can fail altogether.

By contrast, our maple drums are solid, sealed, and built to last.

Why Hard Maple?

Each hard-maple drum is solid wood, double-sealed with EZ-DO for a lasting protective coating that keeps it looking new. The added mass generates superior centrifugal force, resulting in less effort and improved grinding results.

While polypropylene drums are easier (and cheaper) to produce, hard maple offers true quality and longevity — the kind of craftsmanship you can only get from a well-built, Amish-made component.

Optional Cast-Iron Flywheel (not required if you plan on using the motor kit)

Each flywheel features a soft maple handle for a comfortable grip that will last a lifetime.
