BioThane® webbing is low maintenance. No worries if caught in driving rain, as BioThane® doesn’t absorb water, yet it still looks like leather. 

The traditional leather roadster harness is made of select Hermann Oak leather for proper feel and performance.

Either harness set is available with stainless steel or solid brass hardware.

The Roadster harness includes a bridle, tugs, and lines. For square or round blinds, the BioThane harness offers trim colors of your choice.

Harness ships directly from an Amish shop in Indiana. Allow 2-3 weeks plus an extra few days for shipping. Custom options may take 4-6 weeks.

Quality Drives Price

You will find cheaper mass-produced “Economy harnesses” made of thinner plastic-coated webbing or imported leather, with lower-quality hardware. Many are quickly assembled with loose stitching. An economy harness may just be fine for an occasional hitch-up; however, serious equine owners dependent on horses for daily use know a quality-made harness is what you pay for. Our Amish shop still makes harnesses the old-fashioned way, one harness at a time, to last a lifetime. They use premium Hermann Oak leather or original USA BioThane® webbing.  

The BioThane® company spends countless hours testing to evaluate adhesion to its hand-selected, USA-made polyester webbing. Imported plastic-coated webbings have high failure rates under tension and become brittle in cold weather. Thickness and grades of harness materials are selected based on the expectations that the harnesses will be used by other Amish families for working horses day in and day out, with lighter-duty harnesses designed for weekend pleasure trips to shopping and church.

Extra time is spent handcrafting each harness with rounded strap ends, and additional stitching pulled tight into the surface to reduce wear points at the stitching. See the standard sewing design picture. The shop uses the highest-quality stainless or solid-brass hardware available, including a USA-made stainless bit.

Each harness is then personally inspected by the owner and assigned a serial number before shipment. You will find that the attention to detail also provides a more comfortable-fitting harness.

BioThane® was developed in 1977 by the Polyurethane Polymer division of BF Goodrich to meet demand for a more flexible, high-performance horse-racing harness.
