Description / Large Two Wheel Garden Cart
These easy rolling bicycle-style wheel garden carts have been the choice of gardeners and farmers dating back to the late 19th century. They were built to haul all types of gardening materials as well as livestock supplies on the farm.
Bicycle wheels were readily available, and someone figured out that adding them to a plywood cart would make manual chores much easier to maneuver. The ability to balance heavy loads and roll them over rough terrain caught on quickly, and soon, plans were published in early how-to and gardening magazines.
Because of the quality, our Amish-made carts are double the cost of others that you will find in the big box stores and elsewhere online. They are built for the professional gardener or landscaper and will outlast the cheaper carts by 3-1.
The problem is when items become so popular that someone decides they can copy them and have them made overseas with cheaper materials at a fraction of the cost. Then, when the consumer gets one, they quickly become discouraged because they don’t hold up as the original ones, and send them to the landfill after just a few years.
There is a difference between imported wheels and tires. Most of the carts being sold in big box stores and online utilize a much cheaper imported tire that rots in a short period and ends up being flat every time you go to use the cart. You can smell the cheaper rubber when you walk by it in the stores.
The Amish have held on to the design of these carts passed down by generations and have maintained the quality of the ones used by their predecessors. They have made improvements to make things last even longer, such as using sustainable recycled poly materials in place of the original plywood floor and sides. You have the option to choose the thickness, and even an ultra-strength poly is available for carts destined for heavy use and wear, such as in a commercial environment.
