Developed by an Amish family with 9 children who do vegetable farming, and wanted to keep their younger children occupied and close by as the older children and adults planted, tended, and harvested seasonal vegetables.
They searched for sandbox diggers but couldn’t find the durability and solid steel construction they needed for multiple children who would be digging in dirt, gravel, and compost.
The digger weighs only 17 pounds and measures 48” x 24”, making it light and compact enough to take to the beach for a day of building sandcastles and forts. When it is fully extended, it is 5' long.
A sturdy 21” wide round flat base stabilizes the digger in any direction, even in deep sand and soft dirt. Much better than the tripod legs of other models. Predrilled holes are provided for permanent mounting on a concrete base.
The seat is made from 1/8" steel, measuring 12" wide x 11-1/2” deep. The seat sits at the center of the base for added stability. The 6-12” tall backrest helps prevent the child from sliding backward when pulling and pushing the levers.
The digger swivels a full 360 degrees and provides a 38” reach. The two levers operate the reach and the digging just like the big rigs. The bucket is 8" deep x 4-3/4" wide x 6-1/2" tall.
No plastic parts to become brittle and break. The base, main beam, and digger arms are made from 1/4" steel. All steel parts are precision-laser cut to ensure smooth edges. A durable powder-coated finish is available in Red, Green, Blue, White, and Yellow. Select using the drop-down box.
