Description / JD Planter Ground Closing Press Wheel
Vintage J.D. single-row corn planters and some of the J.D. multi-row planters used two of these wheels on the back of the planter to finalize the closing of the seed row.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, nearly every farm used the same equipment, creating ample demand for replacement parts. As most farmers modernized throughout the 1900s, the Amish continued to rely on horse-drawn equipment, as many still do today.
Since this equipment is no longer in production and dealers no longer stock parts, it isn't easy to keep this vintage farm machinery operational. Both Amish and vintage farm machinery implement enthusiasts scour junkyards, farms, and tree lines in search of these long-abandoned implements for restoration.
