Description / IHC, J.D. Vintage Sickle Bar Mower Knives
These are complete replacement sickle mower knife assemblies for vintage horse-drawn and early sickle-bar mowers. The IHC selection is primarily for McCormick-Deering/IHC #7 and #9 mowers. The John Deere selection is listed in the supplier catalog under John Deere #4 mower parts and is commonly associated with vintage John Deere #4/Big 4 mower applications.
Knife assemblies are available in 5’, 6’, and 7’ lengths depending on part number. Cutting styles include regular smooth, heavy smooth, regular underserrated, heavy underserrated, and heavy top-serrated knives. Super 7 coarse top-serrated and fine top-serrated versions are also listed. The enlarged catalog images below have been sharpened to make the section teeth and serration patterns easier to compare.
Do not select a knife based on overall length alone. Two knives of the same length can use different section styles or be intended for different mower configurations. Compare the original knife part number whenever possible and verify the mower model, length, knife head arrangement, and cutting-section style against the equipment parts manual.
Choosing the Correct Knife
First, locate the original knife number in the mower parts book or on an existing service record. Then confirm the knife length and cutting-section style. Smooth sections have a plain cutting edge. Underserrated sections have serrations on the underside of the cutting edge. Top-serrated knives have visible serrations on the upper cutting edge; the Super 7 version uses a coarser tooth pattern. The magnified catalog views can help distinguish these styles, but the original part number remains the best reference for ordering.
Shipping & Returns
Complete sickle knives are oversized and require special packaging. If the actual shipping cost exceeds the amount collected, Cottage Craft Works will contact you before shipment. Inspect the part number, length, and cutting style before installation. Returned parts are subject to a 25% restocking fee. Installed, altered, damaged, or used parts may not qualify for return.
Parts ship directly from an Amish-owned business that does not use computers. Please allow 1–2 weeks for shipping. Complete knives are long, oversized items, so actual freight can exceed the estimated shipping collected at checkout. Cottage Craft Works will send you an invoice link to pay if an additional shipping charge is required before the order ships.
The part numbers and fit information are based on the supplier catalog and available equipment references. Cottage Craft Works does not guarantee fit solely from a mower model description. Please verify the original part number before ordering. Returned parts are subject to a 25% restocking fee; shipping charges are not refundable.

Our Amish companies have made and sourced replacement parts since 1950 for what many now consider antique or junk farm machinery. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, nearly every farm used the same equipment, creating ample demand for replacement parts. As most farmers modernized throughout the 1900s, the Amish continued to rely on horse-drawn equipment, as many still do today.
Since this equipment is no longer in production and dealers no longer stock parts, it isn't easy to keep this vintage farm machinery operational. Amish and vintage farm machinery enthusiasts scour junkyards, farms, and tree lines for these long-abandoned implements to restore.
Cottage Craft Works.com travels deep into the back roads to find Amish companies that still make replacement parts to maintain and restore this old-time horse-drawn farm machinery.
