Homesteader 3-in-1 Milk Pail System – Milk, Separate Cream & Make Butter
One stainless steel pail, three traditional homestead dairy jobs. The USA-made 304 Stainless Steel Essaware Homesteader system starts with a 3- or 5-gallon 304 stainless steel milk pail with a fine-micron filter and snap-down lid, then adds a gravity-flow cream separator and a drill-powered butter churn attachment. Collect fresh milk, naturally separate the cream, and turn that cream into homemade butter using the same compact pail.

Description / Homesteader 3-in-1 Milk Pail System – Milk, Separate Cream & Make Butter
Homesteading can be both rewarding and challenging. One thing that was common among the original homesteaders who settled westward in the 1800s, and remains important to many people seeking a more self-sustaining lifestyle today, is making limited resources go farther. When investing in products to maintain a homestead, multifunctional equipment can be especially appealing. Many vintage farm and household products were designed with useful attachments so one basic tool could perform several jobs.
A family cow is a perfect example. One animal can provide fresh milk for the table, while the cream can be separated for other dairy foods such as homemade butter. Traditionally, that meant having a sanitary pail for milking, a separate way to skim or separate cream, and another device for churning.
Retro forward to the 3-in-1 Homesteader Milk Pail System, made in the USA by Essaware, an Amish company, and offered by CottageCraftWorks.com. Start with the 304 stainless steel milk pail in either 3-gallon or 5-gallon capacity. The pail includes a fine-micron stainless steel filter and snap-down metal lid. Add the gravity-flow cream separator attachment and the drill-powered butter churn attachment to turn one pail into a compact homestead dairy system.
1. Gather Fresh Milk
The square design uses cooler space efficiently and also provides the resistance needed during butter churning, helping keep the cream from simply circling the container.
2. Separate the Cream by Gravity
The Homesteader attachment is not a mechanical centrifugal cream separator. It uses natural gravity separation. Fill the pail with milk, attach the separator, flip the pail, and place it in the cooler for approximately 6–12 hours. Then move it to the edge of a table or sink and drain off the skim milk. The separator attachment includes a gasket, valve, hose, and cleaning brush and fits both Homesteader pail sizes.
3. Churn Fresh Cream into Homemade Butter
After separating the cream, install the butter-churn attachment. Its clear lid lets you watch the butter form, while the stainless steel paddle is powered by your electric or battery-powered drill. The churn handles approximately 1–3 gallons of cream and can make butter in less than five minutes under suitable conditions. Drill is not included.
System Components
3-Gallon 3-in-One Homesteader System — SKU 3903-3900-3913
5-Gallon 3-in-One Homesteader System— SKU 3905-3900-3915
Why the 3-in-1 Concept Fits the Homestead
One primary stainless pail performs several dairy jobs instead of requiring three unrelated containers.
Attachments store separately while the same pail remains useful for everyday milking.
Gravity separation avoids the complexity of a mechanical separator.
Drill power modernizes butter making while preserving the basic traditional process.
Available in two pail capacities to better match different family-cow and homestead needs.
Important Use Notes
The cream separator works by natural gravity separation; it is not a mechanical or centrifugal separator.
Separation takes about 6–12 hours under refrigeration/cooling.
The butter churn is powered by the customer’s electric or battery drill; the drill is not included.
Pail is sold separately from individual attachments unless Cottage Craft Works configures a complete-system option.
Clean and sanitize all milk-contact components before and after use, following normal home-dairy sanitation practices.
