Overview – Premium Amish Cutting & Sewing Layout Table
Elevate your sewing room or craft studio with our handcrafted Amish cutting & sewing layout table, a solid wood workstation designed for durability, comfort, and organization. Built by skilled Amish woodworkers using premium hardwood and dovetail joinery, this table delivers a generous 72″ wide work surface perfect for fabric cutting, pattern layout, quilting prep, and multi-step sewing projects.
Designed for Comfort & Productivity
Unlike standard craft tables, this cutting and fabric layout station expands from a compact 20″ × 40″ footprint to a full-size workspace with fold-out wings, giving you the flexibility of a large cutting table without sacrificing room space. The work surface height is optimized for ergonomic comfort, helping reduce strain during long sewing and fabric layout sessions — a key feature highlighted by sewing workspace experts.
Ample Storage Meets Craft Organization
Three integrated drawers and a swing-open cabinet door ensure that your scissors, rotary cutters, rulers, thread, and sewing accessories are always neatly organized yet within reach. This thoughtful storage solution streamlines your workflow and reduces clutter, helping you focus on creativity rather than searching for tools.
Craftsmanship & Customization
Choose from a variety of premium hardwoods, including Oak, Brown Maple, Cherry, Elm, and Hard Maple, to match your décor and personal style. Each table is hand-finished with a formaldehyde-free topcoat that’s durable and eco-friendly, making it an heirloom-quality addition to any sewing studio.

Construction: These cabinets utilize solid hardwood on the tops, fronts, doors, and drawer fronts. Cabinet-grade veneer plywood is used on the sides.
The cabinet is equipped with three high-quality, dovetail-joined drawers mounted on full-extension slides. The inside of the two bottom drawer boxes is all equal in size and measures approximately 10” Wide x 15” Deep and 7” Tall. The top drawer measures approximately 10” Wide x 15” Deep and 3” Tall.
The cabinet is equipped with nylon-tipped adjustable glides that adjust from 5/16” to ½”. Rollers pictured are optional; select using the drop-down boxes.
Time Frame
You should expect 3 to 6 months for your custom cabinet to be built and shipped. Since the pandemic and economic uncertainty, demand for home-based products has increased significantly. Our Amish builders are also experiencing the same supply chain and labor shortages as other industries. Each cabinet is handcrafted for quality, not for mass-production speed.
Payment Options
You can order online using a credit card, by a secure link invoice, or by mail with a check.
A word about pricing and shipping costs: We have seen a wide range of prices on Amish sewing cabinets over the years. The factors are the cabinet cost and the shipping and delivery cost. When comparing, look at both. Some will increase the price and offer free shipping, while others will lowball the price and charge by the mile, which may end up costing more to deliver than the cabinet price itself. We believe our flat-rate shipping is fair, and our cabinet prices are competitive when you factor in both the cabinet and delivery costs.
Cottage Craft Works has gained a respected reputation for quality sewing cabinets and was featured in the December/January 2015 issue of Vogue Patterns Magazine as a resource for Amish handcrafted sewing machine cabinets.
Shipping Options
You may pick up the cabinet in central Ohio. Select F.O.B. (freight on buyer) if you live close to Central Ohio and would like to pick up the cabinet at the Amish shop. Select a $450 shipping deposit for in-home delivery. We will notify you should there be an issue with delivery to your location.
In-Home Delivery
We use insured, professional blanket-wrapped Amish furniture haulers that cover 95% of the Continental US and offer inside delivery for only $450. The exception might be a remote location at the extreme tip of a state such as Michigan, Maine, or Florida, or in another area that is difficult to deliver to.
These companies make monthly runs with scheduled pickup dates. We coordinate with the cabinet builders around these pickup dates to ship your cabinet as soon as it is completed and ready for pickup by the hauling company.
The term "solid wood furniture" has evolved loosely over time. The term once referred to furniture made entirely from native solid hardwoods.
Today, some companies have expanded the term "marketing" to attract customers seeking quality furniture. They claim their furniture is made of solid wood, based solely on the technical properties of wood chips and fibers that still comprise the wood structure. This means their furniture may contain particleboard or MDF. The woods used in furniture; even high-end sewing cabinets most often use particleboard covered with a glued-on laminate. Particle board does not perform well in humid climates or on long cabinet tops, such as those for next-generation computerized sewing and embroidery cabinets. The product often swells or sags. Cabinet laminated edges are prone to snagging on fabrics and to chipping or peeling off, leaving the particleboard exposed and more susceptible to moisture absorption from the atmosphere.
While particleboard laminated boards are widely used in office furniture, cutting a 13” x 27” hole in the top of a sewing cabinet compromises the top's structural integrity, exposes the edges, and increases the risk of moisture absorption.
Amish furniture will never contain particleboard or MDF. The cabinet fronts and tops, including door and drawer fronts, will be made of premium solid hardwoods in high-wear areas. Cabinet-grade matching veneer plywood will be used on the sides and, for a sewing cabinet, on the inside of the kneehole sides. The back will be covered in the same plywood or a Luan-type plywood. Plywood is layered sheets of real hardwood laminated together, providing a more stabilized wood that doesn’t expand and crack like solid wood, while providing a stronger structural wood than a single wood sheet.
About the Builder
Our builder learned his craft from accomplished Amish cabinetmakers who have passed down old-world craftsmanship from generation to generation. He has been building cabinets since 2002 and, in 2010, started his own custom cabinet business. In 2014, his unique cabinet design and craftsmanship enabled solid growth, prompting him to expand to a new 50’ x 80’ shop. In 2018, he developed a complete in-house finish shop focused on custom furniture manufacturing. Unlike other shops that send their cabinets to other Amish finish shops, this builder can build and finish on the same property, controlling the entire process from start to finish and ensuring they are ready for shipping.
