Please make your own custom turkey slate friction call from our complete, ready-to-assemble kit! Our turkey box call kit has been so popular that customers have asked us to also provide a friction call in kit form.
The unfinished bowl comes in cherry or walnut. You have the option of a round bevel or a round bevel with a crown edge, 3-3/8 x 3/4” bowl pot. The octagon design is unlike the familiar round disc shape used in most friction-call bases. Sorry, the cherry kit is out of stock. Walnut is still in stock.
Description / Turkey Slate Friction Call Kit
The outside of the bowl features a compound bevel on the back for an easier grip. Many prefer the beveled sides, making this design one of our most popular calls because it is easy to balance and grasp in the hand, even with gloves.

This slate call kit also features a 3" inner glass plate to help soften and muffle sharp, unnatural chalkboard squealing from the slate. Very few friction calls use actual inserts inside the call. The slate surface measures 3-1/2”.
When completed, your call will be the highest-quality slate call on the market.
The kit includes a plastic syringe for applying a fine bead of clear silicone sealer to hold the glass in place and to seal around the slate seat. The recommended sealer is the "GOOP" brand, clear adhesive (not included in the kit). The only difficult task in assembling this call is to apply enough glue to the edge so it does not ooze out the side and onto the striker surface. Therefore, we have included a syringe.
The slate will be dry-fitted to protect it during shipping. Sometimes it will be tight and may need additional sanding before the final glue-in. If the slate does not come off easily, use a small dowel to gently push it through the holes on the back while rotating it to remove it without breaking.
The wood bowl will need a light fine sanding before the finish. You can engrave, wood burn, or complete your own personalization. You can also select our engraving option to add a name or initials to the top, or choose logo engraving for projects for youth groups, schools, or other classes. As the FFA classes have done with our box call kits, or use your logo to make your own turkey calls.
Finish the wood, assemble the insert and slate top, let the sealer dry overnight, tune the call surface with the included sanding pad, and you are ready to talk turkey.
