38518-A Gulmite Socket. Replaces the original 38518 wrenches. The nut on top works with a 3/8" wrench, socket, or impact driver.
(See tip note below as this socket will not fit smaller bolt heads used on some models)
Tip: Gulmite Bolt Removal. See the picture of the Gulmite tub bolt compared to a standard 1/2" head and a #12 metric head. Most models use a standard 1/2" head, which the Maytag Gulmite socket fits. A few of the Maytag machines appear to have been equipped with a smaller metric head that looks identical, but the Gulmite socket only turns the head. The only solution is to use a small Dremel grinding wheel to grind a flat screwdriver slot, then remove it with a large, wide screwdriver. It may also be used to remove standard bolts if you don't want to invest in the socket.
Use Our BWS20 Tub Bolt Replacement Kit- Stainless hex head bolt kit includes the 4 x 5/16" x 3/4" bolts to replace Gulmite 15642 tub bolts, 2 x 5/16" x 1-1/4 bolts for replacements of the 14870 Center Plate Bolts, and 6 x large bonded washers.
The Amish relied on these old wringer washers, as most Americans did in the early 1900s, until modern spin-cycle machines were developed. As manufacturing and replacement parts moved forward, the Amish began to have difficulty obtaining parts to maintain the wringer washers. They began manufacturing their own supply of replacement Maytag parts, a practice they still do today. Cottage Craft Works.com takes a step back in time to help people who are still using or restoring vintage homes and farm equipment acquire replacement parts.
The washer parts and tools listed are the most sought-after Maytag parts. Our Amish shop can procure or manufacture just about any part or tool used on round or square tub machines. Since the Amish convert most machines to gas, air, or DC motors, they don’t manufacture new electric motors. They also don’t use the drain pum,p allowing the washer to gravity drain instead. If you need an electric motor or water pump, we can source a used takeoff. Just email us to check the availability of any parts we don’t list.
A $12 flat-rate shipping and handling base rate will be applied to each order, regardless of the cost to ship the smallest part(s) sold in the US. Parts carry minimal markup, especially for small items. The flat rate helps defray our handling and processing costs, which are the same for a bolt or a larger order.
This should cover most washer parts that fit in USPS flat-rate boxes. If you need larger or multiple parts, additional shipping costs may apply.
International customers, please email us the parts you need, and we will calculate shipping costs and send you a PayPal invoice in US Dollars. Duties and taxes will still be due to your country upon delivery.
If you plan to order multiple or large parts, we can send you an invoice for any additional shipping charges, if needed.
We will not know the shipping cost until the Amish shop can verify the order and the cost to ship large parts or large orders.
Tools and parts ship directly from an Amish-owned business without computers; please expect some orders to take up to two to three weeks to ship. The most popular agitator spline puller is typically stocked; other listed tools may need to be made.
