The Amish who are known for their quality furniture building craftsmanship also manufacture many of their own products to serve the Amish communities. Over the past few decades, the Amish who love homemade ice cream became frustrated with the decline in quality and durability of the once American standard in ice cream freezers now being imported.

Lifetime uses a durable powder-coated cast brass hand crank housing equipped with stainless steel gears, stainless steel shaft, and a stainless-steel hand crank with a wooden spinner. 

The tub is machine molded from high-density poly materials with an inner Styrofoam insulating core. All the hardware used on the tub is also made of quality stainless steel. An optional insulated poly tub cover is also available. The tub cover is designed with space to cover the dasher top and has ears to latch down into the tub latch.

Lifetime uses an old-fashioned style stainless-steel positive thumb cam tub latch and a stainless-steel tub ear on the opposite side of the tub to secure either the hand crank frame or electric motor frame.

Lifetime uses an extra heavy-duty stainless-steel can and clear can lid with a premium stainless-steel dasher on both the 6 and 8-quart freezers. The can have no seam down the sides and it has a welded seamless bottom.

With rustproof brass housing, stainless gears, and stainless-steel dasher the Lifetime freezers are more comparable to our other more expensive all stainless-steel Amish ice cream freezer options.

Lifetime has designed an innovative but simple stainless paddle-style dasher. The dasher is cut from a solid sheet of ¼” stainless eliminating the need to have multiple welds. Their efficient paddle design provides a more solid paddle surface eliminating the need for a secondary fixed dasher blade as found in a triple action dasher. The Lifetime dasher is equipped with durable food-grade poly dasher scraper blades.

We like the lifetime dasher design as it has fewer moving parts and is much easier to maintain and ensure sanitation. We also like the flat design making it easier to pull out of the ice cream and slide off the ice cream instead of having to scrape around all the rods and bars on the other brands.

Lifetime hand crank stainless gears do have to be lubricated but do not require packing with grease as the old-fashioned ice cream freezers once did. Just a few shots of food-grade aerosol silicone lube is all that is needed

The gear frame housing has the typical catch cup that can be removed with two screws to quickly access the gears. Lifetime originally had a grease zerk at the top of the hand crank gear frame as some pictures show, but later found that it was not needed as the stainless-steel gears just don’t require grease like the old-time freezers with cast metal gears. Just a thin spray lubricant such as CRC Food Grade Silicone Lubricant 10 oz. Aerosol available at such stores as ACE Hardware is all that is needed after every 12 times of use. The freezer will come with a light coating of lubricant between the gears to show how much is needed.
