It functions just like the electric mixer. The creative, adjustable crank handle lets you adjust the speed, so you don't have to crank faster for whipping. Loosen the black set screw at the end of the crank to adjust the handle speed for whipping cream and sauces, or slow the speed for bread doughs and cookie mixes.
This has also become a popular mixer for Dutch oven cook-off teams, as well as for restaurants using it at the tableside to whip up desserts and make nitrogen-frozen ice cream.
The mixers are purchased new, and the internal components are removed and replaced with Amish-machined gear and drive sets. Each gear set is handmade one at a time, and the labor required to convert a mixer is why they are a bit pricey. With no electric motor to wear out, the conversion mixer should last for generations.
Please note: In the hand-crank conversion and gearing configuration, the top docking port for the added KitchenAid attachments is no longer functional on this mixer. Yes, this isn't very pleasant if you have all the attachments. If you use it to make bread, whip egg whites, or use the flat beater for cookies, this mixer is an excellent off-grid alternative.
Just like The Little Dutch Maid, this converted Kitchen Aid cranks smoothly. You can tell the gearing is heavier-duty than the original electric motor.
The Kitchen Aid is available only in white and includes a flat beater, wire whip, dough hook, and a 5-qt stainless steel mixing bowl. The plastic splash guard (pictured) is no longer routinely included with the converted mixers. All attachments are new or refurbished to be like-new. The shop occasionally receives a few random colors. If you would like to check color availability when placing your order, use the comment section to list the colors you would like checked, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd options. Otherwise, you can expect a white, as we can't guarantee a specific color. It is challenging to communicate with this Amish shop and receive quick responses, so please don't ask for color selection before placing the order. They may only have one of a particular color, and that may be gone before you decide, place your order, and the shop receives it.
Due to the arrangement and conversion, the Kitchen Aid manufacturer's original warranty no longer applies. The converted model will hold a one-year free repair or replacement warranty. After one year, our Amish shop will repair at cost for parts, labor, and shipping.
The warranty is subject to inspection for abnormal use or abuse of the machine, or for dropping it.
Mixers are converted in a small Amish shop. Due to high demand, these mixers may take 4-8 weeks to ship. Please order early for Christmas gifts as the demand surges this time of year.
Would you like to have an existing mixer converted? Our Amish machine shop can convert both the Classic and Artisan KitchenAid mixers to hand-crank models for off-grid use.
